Book Review: Manipulating The Assassin by Lauren Reign

This is a 10,000 word (or thereabouts) short story and it's one of those stories that doesn't seem quite sure what it wants to be. Is it an erotica snippet? Not enough sex in it for that. There's not enough emotional detail for it to be a psychological suspense, we hardly get inside Kimber's head at all despite the story being told in first person.

The story also needs a thorough proofreading. There was a 'door jam' instead of a 'door jamb' in the first couple of pages and at another point where the suspense should have been building I ended up in a fit of the giggles as Rye 'unbuttoned his shit' instead of his shirt.

However, there was quite a cool little twist at the end I admit I didn't see coming and at the end of the book I put it down with a feeling that I'd actually quite enjoyed it. I'm in a good mood so I'm gonna be generous and give it three stars... but Ms Reign really needs to hire a proofreader at the very least or next time I run across her work I won't be so forgiving.

Unbuttoning his shit, indeed. *shakes head* Well, at least you gave me a giggle.

Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book for review through ReadingAlley.

Added note: Incredibly, the author attempted to clap back at me on Goodreads for this review. I don't think she came off very well in the exchange.
