Book Review: How to Write Erotica: A Beginner's Guide to Writing and Publishing Short Erotica by

This is a really, really excellent book on how to get started in self-publishing erotica. The author doesn't go into a great deal of detail regarding the actual how of writing, though she does lay out a quick and easy 'format' to use for stories of 4-8,000 words, and she talks about the importance of editing, making a great cover and writing good blurbs.

The book also covers the tools that the author uses to write and gather ideas, including Scrivener and Evernote, how to prep your book for Kindle (though not in massive detail) and some methods of getting a cover done for little or no cost.

In my opinion, though, this book is a superb guide to how to actually attract readers, which frankly is the Holy Grail of being successful as an author. The author talks about writing to the market, identifying what niches are selling well and how to identify and use the right Amazon keywords to make sure that searches find your book.

There is a really excellent section on social media marketing with a TON of Facebook groups that the author apparently uses for promotion of her book, suggestions for how to use Goodreads, Twitter and other social media. The author states that she has used 'all these groups to promote her erotica at some point in the last 4 months' which is quite a claim, because there must be over 100 Facebook groups on that list.

At the same time, she claims to be making $2500 a month from her erotica sales after only a few months in the game, so quite possibly those Facebook groups are the way to go, and I'll certainly be giving it a shot myself!

Those Facebook lists alone have to be worth the cover price of the book, but there's lots of other great information here that make me happy I chose to buy it. I'm giving it 5 stars without hesitation.

If you're thinking about getting into the self-publishing erotica game, you need to get this book. It's that simple.
