Book Review: Immortal Flame by Jillian David

I thoroughly enjoyed this paranormal romance about Peter, an ex-WWII soldier who sold his soul to the devil to save his dying wife, and Allison, an ER surgeon battling to make a normal life despite the visions of death she receives from touching other people.

It's a genuinely excellent, engaging world that the author has created here with a completely believable mythos (although I did find myself wondering who makes the 'Rules' that Peter's demon master has to abide by).

I'd have liked to see a little more curiosity from Allison about Claire - yes, the woman is long dead and Peter had to cut off all contact with her after he made his deal, but he was still married to her and loved her deeply. That small quibble is probably just my liking for complete backstory showing, and it in no way diminished my enjoyment of the story.

The book is tightly written and the (couple of) sex scenes are hot and perfectly in context. I have no hesitation in recommending this to anyone who likes paranormal romance, although I'd actually suggest picking up the complete Hell To Pay series, which the author has available on Kindle for 99 cents, rather than buying this one individually. I have no doubt the rest of the series will match this one for quality. Off to one-click it myself now!

Disclaimer: I received a free ARC of this book for review through Reading Alley.
